JOB TITLE: Clean & Safe Events Technician Seasonal

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt – Seasonal

DEPARTMENT: CRE

SUPERVISOR: CRE Deputy Director & Clean & Safe Events Technicians

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position receives minimal supervision thereby requiring a high degree of reliability. General maintenance includes event set up and take down, snow removal, sweeping, minor landscape and planter maintenance, and other physical activities. Public relations include the distribution of literature, providing general information and direction, and positively representing the Cheyenne community. Scheduling is flexible and will likely include some weekend scheduling.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor, clean and maintain Municipal properties including parking structures, restrooms, the Depot Plaza, and other downtown facilities.
  • Sweep, clear and maintain sidewalks and curb flow lines.
  • Employ automated and/or manual means to remove snow and ice.
  • Maintain grated tree planters and street furniture.
  • Clean and maintain street-side trash receptacles and raised planters.
  • Assist in the management, set-up, and execution of special events.
  • Monitor and mitigate graffiti, unauthorized/illegal signs, displays, and publications.
  • Prepare periodic reports detailing major maintenance and unsafe conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the public.
  • Raise and lower flags, banners, and seasonal displays.
  • Recognize and report to the proper authority suspicious circumstances and persons.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Work independently without constant supervision.
  • Familiarity with powered and manual equipment.
  • Ability to understand and execute written or oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of downtown event procedures and calendars.
  • Familiarity with the lore and history of Cheyenne, particularly its downtown.
  • Knowledge of locations of public services, retail operations, and other downtown businesses.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Required:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Prior employment experience working in an independent environment with minimal supervision will be helpful. Familiarity with maintenance equipment. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Wyoming Driver’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating office equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Traveling from site-to-site walking and occasionally pushing or otherwise operating equipment. Exposure to waste, infectious materials, vehicular traffic, noise, dust, smoke, fumes, and cleaning chemicals. This position is predominantly composed of work performed outdoors. The City of Cheyenne and the DDA will provide the bulk of protective outerwear in the form of uniform(s) identifying the employee and his or her function. Particularly extreme weather may result in work assignment(s) to an indoor or protected environment. Crowded vehicular and pedestrian traffic are the norm. The employee may expect to be frequently engaged by the public as a source of information and direction.
