Purpose and Scope

This position is responsible for providing academic, social, physical, and skills development for students in specific grades/subject areas to prepare them to be successful citizens and workers in the 21st century.

Essential Job Functions

• Creates an educational environment conducive to learning, appropriate to students' maturity and needs; prepares instructional materials and provides evidence of preparation upon request.
• Establishes classroom behavior standards and manages classroom conduct both inside and outside of school.
• Assesses student progress on an established timetable, provides progress reports to parents/guardians, administrators, and staff; administers tests and assessments.
• Plans curriculum, prepares lessons, and instructional materials tailored to students' individual needs within state and school requirements, considering their educational, physical, and emotional development levels.
• Collaborates with parents, administrators, specialists, mental health staff, and resource staff to develop educational programs.
• Creates learning materials aligned with students' abilities and interests.
• Uses educational strategies to enhance sensory, perceptual-motor, perception, memory, language, communication, cognition, social, and emotional development.
• Motivates students, reinforces learning skills, and provides ongoing assessment and feedback.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and regulations.
• Supports the implementation of policies and rules governing student activities and conduct.
• Sponsors student activities, clubs, teams, and organizations; tutors students as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with endorsement in the taught grade/subject and a valid Tennessee certificate; highly qualified status required. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties.
