Classroom Teacher
POSITION: Biology Teacher (Classroom)
TERM: Eleven month work year
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in use of educationally appropriate technology.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provide academic instruction to students.
- Implement student IEP requirements.
- Establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth.
- Help students develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.
- Maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform instructional duties in a professional manner, including:
- Developing weekly lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Adapting the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Effecting lesson plans through presentation to achieve objectives.
- Ensuring class activities and lesson presentations are age-appropriate and meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all students.
- Setting specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans.
- Devising written and oral assignments, tests, and other related assessments that require analytical and critical thinking.
- Maintaining records of students’ educational progress in class record books, electronic-digital grade books, and parent portal; summarizing marks for reporting purposes.
- Developing proficiency in the school grading system.
- Preparing grades, report cards, and progress reports.
- Utilizing functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers to create an effective environment for learning.
- Providing extra help to students.
- Provide specialized instructional need to address students’ disabilities, including:
- Implementing student IEPs.
- Implementing the Behavior Intervention/Modification Plans.
- Assessing pupil academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
- Identifying student needs and cooperating with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
- Providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to achieve classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Communicating with parents about the school program and to discuss student progress.
- Exercising authority in the classroom, including supervising Instructional Aide/Assistant.
- Supporting student transition, including writing college/private school recommendations.
- Supporting non-academic programs of the school, including supervising students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned and chaperoning class trips.
- Enhancing educational environment and opportunities available at the schools, including participating in school-level planning, staff meetings/committees, and other school system groups.
- Maintaining and enhancing professional competency, including maintaining professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
- Upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
- Collaborating with other professional staff members to elicit the very best from students.
- Being punctual and prepared for all meetings.
- Performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction.
EVALUATION: At least once annually by Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction
