Job summary

The School Board of Broward County, Florida seeks a Classroom Assistant to support teachers by preparing instructional materials, keeping classrooms organized, and assisting with data collection and clerical tasks.

You will supervise students under teacher guidance, escort and monitor safety, assist during meals and rest periods, support testing and group activities, and communicate effectively with children; preferred candidates have an associate degree or 60 college hours and bilingual skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children.
• Computer skills required as needed for the position.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of a teacher to create instructional materials.
• Supervise and escort students to ensure safety and welfare.
• Provide classroom-related clerical support (notes, folders, data collection).
• Prepare and use instructional materials and teaching aids under teacher direction.
• Assist with lunchroom activities and dining with students.
• Assist in supervising nap and rest periods.
• Assist in providing care when the teacher is absent (not a substitute).
• Construct and design items for tests and worksheets with teacher guidelines.
• Follow-up lessons and reinforce content as directed by the teacher.
• Supervise small group discussions and activities among students.
• Assist individual students as assigned by the teacher.
• Utilize programs with groups of students.
• Perform daily living activities (hygiene, mobility, feeding, adaptive equipment, behavioral support).
