Job summary

Harrison County School District is seeking a Teacher Assistant for 184 days, located at Bel-Aire Elementary. The aide will support the teacher in planning individualized training programs and reinforcing skills in language, reading, math, and social development.

You will assist with classroom activities and monitor student progress under supervision. Qualifications include 48 college hours or an associate degree, plus background and child abuse checks and a satisfactory employment history.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least 2 years of college or an associate’s degree.
• Background check and child abuse registry checks required.
• Satisfactory employment record required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in district and school professional development programs.
• Comply with district policies and procedures.
• Plan daily and long-range lessons with the Certified Teacher, including at least 30 minutes weekly instructional planning.
• Model reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
• Support students in basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills with large or small groups.
• Monitor assignments and report misunderstandings to the teacher for immediate reteaching.
• Alert the teacher to special needs of individual children.
• Provide escort and assistance to students in cafeteria, restrooms, and playground.
• Ensure safety and report hazards in the school environment.
• Maintain individual student records with the teacher.
