Job summary

LaPorte Community School Corporation is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support students with academics and social activities, assist the classroom teacher, and help manage behavior in the classroom.

The role requires the ability to read and interpret educational materials, write routine reports, and communicate effectively with staff and students. Prior experience with students and positive employment history are desirable qualifications.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret textbooks and guides.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents or employees.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with instructional activities and assignments as directed by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in the development of positive student behaviors.
• Maintain student confidentiality by complying with the Rights to Students Confidentiality Act.
• Assist with classroom clerical and other non-student specific activities as directed by the teacher.
• Participate in mandatory in-service training meetings to improve skills for the students.
• Comply with all standard rules and regulations for the assigned building by the principal.
• Defer all specific questions about a student to the teacher for a response.
