Job summary

Sullivan County BOCES in Liberty, New York, seeks a Substitute Teacher Aide to support teachers and students in the classroom under the supervision of the building principal.

Typical duties include setting up equipment, proctoring exams, correcting papers, assisting with activities, supervising students, and performing light clerical tasks. Qualifications include a high school diploma or two years’ experience with children.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience working with children or in educational settings is preferred.
• Ability to work under supervision and support classroom objectives.

Responsibilities

• Assists in setting up laboratory equipment
• Proctors and assists in administering examinations
• Assists in correcting test papers, recording grades, and maintaining student files
• Operates recording equipment, reading laboratory equipment, film projectors, and other equipment
• May perform simple clerical duties under general supervision
• Reads to children and plays records for children
• May provide oversight and/or personal assistance to students in the hallways, bathrooms and other areas in school buildings and on school grounds as required
• Distributes supplies to classroom students; assists in supervising recreation, lunch periods and study halls
• May assist in cleanup in cafeteria/dining room and may perform other basic housekeeping tasks
• Assists in arts and crafts or other classroom activities
• Attends and participates in designated school meetings and trainings
