Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Three to six months of related experience and/or training.
• Knowledge of basic needs and developmental stages of children.
• Knowledge of typical behavioral patterns and issues in a school setting.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to write simple documents and instructions.
• Ability to operate various media and technology equipment such as a computer, television, VCR, cassette player, overhead projector, laminator, copy machine, and other office equipment.
• Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees, and the general community.
• Required to obtain a CDL and Bus License.
• Required to serve as a substitute bus driver and/or regular bus route driver.

Responsibilities

• Discuss assigned duties with classroom teacher to coordinate instruction.
• Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids.
• Supervise groups in the cafeteria, library, playground, restrooms, and other areas.
• Present subject matter to students, using a variety of methods and techniques as directed.
• Operate learning aids and technological equipment.
• Assist others in the use of computer programs (for teachers and students).
• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning.
• Prepare, administer, grade student assignments, and assist with filing of student records.
• Assist the teacher in preparation of reports.
• Assist in conferring with parents on progress.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness and general upkeep of the school environment.
• Assist other staff in the department as required.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Drive a school bus when required.
