Job summary

Brookville Center for Children's Services in Glen Head, NY seeks a diligent Teacher Assistant to support the lead teacher in daily classroom activities. You will help prepare materials, supervise students, and assist with personal care as needed, while ensuring a safe, hygienic learning environment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of disability, genders, ethnicity and races.
• Demonstrate the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors to create an inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively required.
• Experience working with children and special education students preferred.
• Warm calm demeanor required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the assigned teacher in all areas of the daily classroom routine.
• Attend staff and parent meetings as assigned.
• Prepare classroom materials as requested by the teacher.
• Provide students with personal care and assistance in activities of daily living under teacher direction.
• Maintain health and safety of the classroom environment; regularly clean and disinfect surfaces.
• Provide bus, hallway and playground supervision.
• Attend team meetings as assigned.
• Carry out classroom-specific behavior management programs under supervision.
