Job summary

Roosevelt School District 66 is seeking a Classroom/Student Aide to assist students in classrooms with health, hygiene and learning tasks, and to provide support to teachers as needed.

The role emphasizes supervising students, following IEP plans, and maintaining confidentiality while communicating with parents and staff. This is a nine-month, hourly position based at Sunland STEAM Academy with expected collaboration across general and special education staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR and First Aid certificates preferred.
• Experience with severely handicapped students preferred.
• Ability to follow directions and work with teachers.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in health and hygiene training and provide classroom assistance.
• Escort students within school, monitor conduct, and take attendance.
• Prepare reports, assist with clerical tasks, and maintain records.
• Support students with hygiene and self-help tasks as needed.
• Assist special-needs students with positioning and movement using equipment.
• Maintain sanitation of rooms and surfaces.
• Support students with IEP goals and learning tasks.
• Communicate with parents/staff while keeping confidentiality.
• Enforce district rules and report issues to the Principal.
• Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
• Monitor meals and recess; follow supervising teacher's schedule.
• Work with general and special education teachers.
• Supervise students as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

To assist students in school classrooms with personal health, hygiene and learning tasks and to provide assistance to Teachers as needed.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Assists pre-school and elementary school students in school classrooms with personal health and hygiene training and individual assistance as needed; aidsTeachers as requested; duties may vary according to job assignment.
2. Guides students to and from school facilities and classrooms; monitors students and assists in maintaining good student conduct; takes attendance and enters data into tracking system.
3. Documents special issues and problems and assures all required written reports are completed and submitted daily; assists with clerical duties, copying and record keeping as needed.
4. Assists students with hygiene and self-help skills such as feeding, toileting and dressing.
5. Assists special-needs students with individual positioning and movement with various pieces of assistive equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and other equipment according to their needs.
6. Cleans and sanitizes rooms, surfaces, toys and other areas as needed.
7. Assists students with learning tasks and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
8. Communicates with parents, students and staff to convey pertinent information while maintaining confidentiality of personal information.
9. Enforces District policies and rules of conduct, and reports behavior issues and other concerns to supervisor or Principal.
10. Transports equipment and supplies for special needs students and assures delivery to teachers.
11. Monitor and assist students during meal and recess periods.
12. Maintain schedule established by supervising teacher.
13. Use a variety of activities and materials approved by the supervising teacher.
14. Work effectively with general and special education teachers.
15. Supervise students as assigned by principal.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalency.

Licenses or Certifications

CPR and First Aide certificates for infants, children and adults.

Experience

Experience in working with severely handicapped students or young adults is preferred as well as experience working with learning disabled individuals.

Working Conditions

The work environment is the normal school setting; the noise level ranges from quiet to loud but is usually moderate.The playground setting can include exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.

Terms of Employment

Nine-month year, Classified Hourly Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.
