Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) seeks a Class Size Teacher under the Joint Class Size Assessment Council (JCSAC) to address oversized classrooms in Priority Schools. You will oversee instruction, progress, and discipline under the principal’s supervision, with responsibilities across planning, assessment, and family communications.

Successful candidates hold ISBE teaching certificates (PEL/ELS) and must meet CPS residency requirements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of subject matter aligned to state certification.
• Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and collaboration with staff.
• Sound and professional judgment in classroom decisions.
• Familiarity with classroom behavior management strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide lesson plans and track student progress and records.
• Apply teaching methods and develop new techniques with diverse materials.
• Demonstrate curriculum knowledge within subject areas and levels.
• Promote attendance and anti-vandalism initiatives in schools.
• Establish classroom rules aligned with CPS discipline code.
• Maintain attendance records and seating charts.
• Encourage self-discipline and positive self-concept in students.
• Ensure fair teacher-pupil relationships and respect for students.
• Initiate conferences with parents and guardians and administrators.
• Communicate progress, attendance, and conduct to families.
• Attend in-service and staff meetings to stay updated.
• May coordinate field trips and participate in extracurricular activities.
• Utilize community resources to support learning.
