Job summary

Upper Merion Area School District is seeking a Class K Food Service Worker for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports daily meal preparation, serving, and cash handling in a middle school cafeteria, with a 4.25-hour day (7:00 AM – 11:15 AM) and an hourly wage of $19.10.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, strong teamwork, and reliable attendance. Prior institutional food service experience is preferred, and adherence to HACCP and dietary restrictions is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing hot and cold food items (e.g., chopping vegetables, baking, assembling sandwiches, preparing salads) following standardized recipes and production records.
• Set up serving lines with appropriate utensils, plates, and food items. Serve meals to students and staff, following precise portion-control guidelines to meet National School Lunch and Breakfast Program requirements.
• Operate the cafeteria cash register or meal scanning system, accurately processing student accounts, cash payments, and identifying a "reimbursable meal"
• Adhere strictly to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles, including monitoring and logging food temperatures, proper food storage (labeling/dating), and avoiding cross-contamination.
• Assist in receiving, checking, and stocking food deliveries and supply shipments in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.
• Maintain sharp awareness of student food allergies and medical dietary restrictions, ensuring designated alternatives are handled carefully.
