Job Title: Class C Mechanic Helper – Trailer Repairs

Introduction: We are seeking a Class C Mechanic Helper with a focus on Fleet repairs. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining and repairing our fleet of trailers, trucks, and equipment ensuring they meet safety standards and are in optimal working condition. This role is vital to supporting our operations and ensuring the efficiency and safety of our transportation assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Trailer Repairs: Perform comprehensive trailer repairs, including brake jobs, welding, wheel seals, electrical work, tire maintenance, door repairs, and roof repairs.
  2. Inspections: Conduct daily inspections of outgoing trucks and trailers to ensure their roadworthiness before leaving company premises.
  3. Compliance: Ensure trailers conform to U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements (FMCSA 49 CFR) through proactive maintenance and annual inspections.
  4. Collaboration: Work closely with the Fleet Manager on inventory management, maintenance, and annual inspection records.
  5. Support the Fleet Manager and fellow mechanics in repairing tractors and power industrial trucks.
  6. Road Support: Assist with road calls as needed during the day.
  7. Additional Duties: Undertake any other duties as assigned to support the team and operational goals.

Physical Demands:

  1. Engage in standing, bending, lifting, crawling, and climbing for 6-8 hours per day.
  2. Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80lbs.
  3. Operate within indoor and outdoor environments.
  4. Exposure to wet/humid conditions, high places, vibrations, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions.
  5. Work in an environment with potentially loud noise levels.
  6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided by the company, except for work boots.
  7. Maintain a Monday through Friday 1st shift work schedule, with overtime availability as required.

Essential Qualifications:

  1. Possess a minimum of 2 years of experience, State Inspection License preferred.
  2. Proficiency in air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and ABS brake systems.
  3. Familiarity with a diverse range of hand tools, as well as welding and fabrication tools.
  4. Experience with Dry Van Storage (Required)
  5. Possession of a valid driver’s license (Class C preferred, CDL a plus).
  6. Willingness to develop mechanical and technical skills and a solid grasp of mechanical concepts.
  7. Must have your own tools.
  8. Successful completion of Pre-Employment Drug and Physical Test.
