Job summary

Performance Foodservice in Suffolk, VA is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Technician to perform preventative maintenance on medium to heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, under minimal supervision. You will ensure compliance with state and federal trucking regulations, document work orders, and participate in road call services as needed.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least 2 years of repair experience, PMs, brakes, and electrical troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 2 years of medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair experience including PMs, diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and A/C refrigeration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, refrigeration units).
  • Identify root causes of basic failures and perform repairs as required.
  • Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration before road use.
  • Document work orders for repairs and PMs in the online system.
  • Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
  • Inspect brakes, steering, wheel bearings, and other critical parts and replace as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, battery checks, lubrication) using hand and power tools.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Details

Monday - Friday, 1st shift, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Salary $25.00–$30.00 per hour based on experience and skill set. Free uniforms, safety boot allowance, and benefits starting Day 1 of employment.

Role Overview

Perform preventative maintenance on medium to heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, reefer units, and converter dolly under minimal supervision. Ensure compliance with all state and federal trucking regulations. Communicate and interact with co‑workers professionally, addressing questions accurately and promptly. Technicians are responsible for documentation, completing work orders for repairs and parts used daily, and performing road call services as needed.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete and perform preventative maintenance on minor repairs and standard component inspections/repairs of fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, refrigeration units).
  • Identify root causes of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required.
  • Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed roadworthy.
  • Complete thorough documentation for work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance via the online Enterprise Asset Management system.
  • Install, replace, and repair onboard computers.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical parts to ensure proper operating condition, replacing parts as necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment and machinery using hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, precision instruments) and power tools (pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of proven medium to heavy‑duty vehicle repair experience, including PMs, tire & wheel, air & air‑disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair, and A/C refrigeration.
