Job summary

Performance Food Group is seeking a skilled heavy-duty vehicle technician to diagnose and repair fleet tractors, trailers, and reefer units. You will perform preventative maintenance, inspect critical systems, and ensure compliance with licensing and safety regulations.

Responsibilities include documenting work orders, installing onboard computers, and providing road call services as needed. Requires 5+ years in vehicle repair and 2+ years in A/C refrigeration; HS diploma or GED required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent.
• 5+ years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair, PMs, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, electronics, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in A/C refrigeration; ASE Heavy Duty credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, reefer units).
• Identify root cause of failures and execute required repairs.
• Inspect brakes, steering, wheel bearings and other critical components; replace parts as needed.
• Ensure roadworthiness with proper licensing and registration.
• Document work orders and maintenance in the Enterprise Asset Management system.
• Install, replace, and repair onboard computers; use hand and power tools.

• $36.00 - $40.00 per hour, depending on experience
• Sunday-Thursday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Position Purpose

Responsible for diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty trucks, trailers, reefer units, converter dolly and maintenance vehicles under minimal supervision. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Communicates and interacts with co-workers. Technicians are responsible for the documentation, completion, and keeping the work orders for all repairs and parts used daily. The position will be required to perform road call services as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

• Complete and perform preventative maintenance on minor repairs and standard component inspections/ repairs of fleet diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, refrigeration units) as well as, identifying root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition which may require replacement of parts
• Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as 'roadworthy'
• Complete thorough documentation for work orders of repairs and preventative maintenance through the online Enterprise Asset Management system
• Install, replace, and repair onboard computers
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery requiring the use of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
• Train other employees
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience: 7 - 10 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including PM's, tire & wheel, air & air disc brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, electronic component repair and a minimum of 2 years' experience in A/C Refrigeration.

Preferred Professional Certification(s): Tire & wheel, brakes, AC and/or EPA, DOT inspections, transmissions, engines, ASE Heavy Duty
