Job summary

Clean Harbors in Monroe, MI is seeking a Class B CDL Driver to operate light and heavy-duty trucks at customer sites, with hazmat/tanker perms preferred. You will perform driving and non-driving duties on and off sites, supporting hazardous waste cleanup projects.

The role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with 6 am start, 8–10+ hour days, potential overtime and occasional out-of-town emergency work with lodging and per diem provided. Training is provided through a two-week Academy out of state.

Qualifications

• Valid Class B CDL; Hazmat and Tanker endorsements within 90 days.
• Ability to operate Class B trucks and associated equipment.
• Willingness to perform on-site and off-site duties in hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy-duty trucks at customer sites.
• Load/unload trucks and ensure proper placarding per regulations.
• Maintain logs, time sheets, and reports for compliance.
• Support emergency response and site remediation as needed.
• Follow all safety and DOT rules on every shift.

Job description

Clean Harbors in Monroe, MI is seeking a Class B CDL Driver to operate light and heavy-duty trucks/work equipment at our customer sites; some of the vehicles operated include Vacuum Trailer, roll-off trailers, van trailers, box trucks and high-powered vacuum loaders. This role is responsible for performing driving and non-driving duties on and off customer sites associated with hazardous waste clean-up.

• Hazmat and Tanker endorsements preferred, no automatic restriction
• Typically Monday through Friday schedule, average start time 6 am
• Average an 8-10+ hour day. Overtime after 40 hrs.
• Must be available for emergency response/project work that could take you out of town up to 2 weeks at a time, hotel and per diem provided

Note this position requires new hires to attend our two-week Academy training out of state. Expenses are covered by the company, and it is paid training.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
• Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers when needed (team atmosphere where everyone helps)
• Operate a variety of Class B trucks
• Loading and unloading of trucks
• Ensure customer satisfaction at time of service.
• Proper placarding of vehicles to meet Company and DOT requirements/regulations
• Maintain daily logs, time sheets, and various reports
• Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules
• Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements
• Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
• Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned
• By position, ability to be on call for emergency response on rotating basis every other week
• By position, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, and the handling of hazardous materials.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Class B CDL
• Obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
• Ability to use various mobile devices
• Perform physical functions per job requirements
• Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
• Per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial driver experience
• Hazmat and Tanker endorsement
• Previous Hazmat experience
• Ability to operate a manual transmission
• Previous manual labor experience
