Job description

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods and materials across designated routes while ensuring compliance with all DOT regulations and company policies. This role involves performing vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate logs, delivering cargo on schedule, and providing excellent customer service. The Truck Driver plays a critical role in maintaining the reliability and reputation of Hillen Corp’s trucking operations.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Transportation & Delivery
  • Safely operate company trucks to transport goods and materials to designated locations.
  • Ensure timely pickups and deliveries according to schedules and customer requirements.
  • Make an average of 6-8 stops per day, depending on the assigned route.
  • Load and unload cargo safely, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
Vehicle Inspections & Maintenance
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, completing required documentation.
  • Identify and report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of the truck at all times.
Compliance & Safety
  • Follow all DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) compliance.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE when required.
  • Maintain accurate electronic logging (ELD) records and trip documentation.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or hazardous road conditions to supervisors immediately.
Communication & Customer Service
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding route updates, delays, or issues during transport.
  • Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with customers or vendors.
  • Ensure proper handling of cargo to prevent damage and ensure customer satisfaction.
Requirements
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and trucking industry best practices.
  • Ability to operate and maneuver commercial trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent time management skills to meet delivery schedules and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with dispatch and customers.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in logs, inspections, and deliveries.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • No drug or alcohol-related convictions in the past five years.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of professional truck driving experience preferred.
  • Experience using electronic logging systems (ELD) and GPS navigation.
  • Familiarity with local, regional, and long-haul routes is a plus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS
  • Primarily on the road, with extended periods of driving.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, road hazards, and heavy traffic.
  • Requires sitting for long durations, with occasional lifting and cargo handling.
  • Regular work hours with potential for overtime, weekend, or night shifts based on operational needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong understanding of safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and report major concerns.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work independently while following company policies and dispatch instructions.
