Job summary

Upchurch is seeking a Mechanic / Class A Driver to inspect, maintain, and operate company vehicles and equipment. You will support shop and field operations, transport tools and materials, and assist crews to keep projects on schedule.

The role requires a strong mechanical background, safe driving, and knowledge of DOT requirements. Candidates should be able to work independently, handle loads, and prioritize in a dynamic construction environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• DOT medical card and compliance with DOT drug/alcohol testing.
• Experience operating commercial vehicles and transport equipment.
• Mechanical experience with trucks, trailers, diesel equipment, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems.
• Ability to read work orders, inspection forms, delivery paperwork, safety requirements, and basic equipment documentation.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tools as required.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing field and shop needs.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate Class A commercial vehicles, trailers, and related equipment safely.
• Transport tools, materials, equipment, piping, ductwork between shop and job sites.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document vehicle condition.
• Secure loads using chains, binders, straps, tarps, and similar methods.
• Maintain trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, tire, and lighting issues and arrange repairs.
• Maintain maintenance records, inspection logs, fuel records, and paperwork.
• Assist with loading/unloading and material handling.
• Support mobilization/demobilization by delivering/picking up tools and equipment.
• Keep vehicles and work areas clean and safe.
• Communicate issues and updates to supervision promptly.
• Follow safety policies, DOT/OSHA rules.
• Assist field crews and fabrication teams to support schedules.
• All other duties as assigned.
