About the Role

The Class A CDL Utility Driver supports operations across Douglasville, Pennsylvania; Dover, Delaware; Burlington, New Jersey; and other locations as assigned. This position is responsible for safely transporting food waste using commercial vehicles and open-top dump trailers on intrastate and interstate routes.

Unlike a regularly assigned route driver, the Utility Driver must be prepared to support different locations, routes, schedules, and operational needs. The ideal candidate is flexible, dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable operating both manual- and automatic-transmission vehicles.

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires alertness, sound judgment, and strict compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety requirements. Employees are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load, haul, and deliver food waste on intrastate and interstate routes.
  • Complete approximately 15–25 stops per day based on company-assigned routing.
  • Travel between and provide operational support to the Douglasville, Dover, and Burlington locations as needed.
  • Operate combination vehicles with 30- to 45-foot open-top dump trailers.
  • Safely operate manual- and automatic-transmission vehicles in accordance with DOT regulations and all applicable laws.
  • Operate manual or electric pallet jacks as required.
  • Use a pressure washer to rinse bins and containers.
  • Ensure customer locations are left clean and free of debris.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report mechanical, safety, or equipment concerns promptly.
  • Use basic hand tools to complete minor repairs to company bins and equipment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and basic condition of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Use an electronic logging system to maintain DOT driver logs and other required records.
  • Accurately complete and submit contamination reports, service tickets, maintenance documents, and other required paperwork.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, dispatch, and the operations team.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, and safety incidents immediately to the appropriate manager.
  • Attend and participate in required weekly safety calls, training courses, and operational briefings.
  • Use a computer or mobile phone for training, communication, documentation, and expense management.
  • Work flexible hours based on operational demands and seasonality, including up to 60 hours within seven days or 70 hours within eight days.
  • Accept different assignments as needed, including interstate routes and support outside a regularly scheduled service area.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License self-certified as Non-Excepted Interstate with the state of issuance.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record and Pre-Employment Screening Program record.
  • Must meet one of the following age and experience requirements:
    • At least 23 years old with a minimum of two years of full-time, verifiable tractor-trailer experience; or
    • At least 21 years old with one year of tractor-trailer experience and graduation from an approved truck-driving school; or
    • At least 21 years old with one year of qualifying military driving experience.
  • Ability to operate both manual- and automatic-transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to operate a manual or electric pallet jack.
  • Experience using an electronic logging system, such as PeopleNet.
  • Basic computer and mobile phone skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to maintain route consistency.
  • Effective communication and customer-service skills.
  • Stable and verifiable employment history.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to communicate with the public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and accurately complete required reports and records.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating open-top dump trailers or similar commercial equipment.
  • Food-waste, route-delivery, or multi-stop driving experience.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation and electronic logging devices.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Basic mechanical skills for minor equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting multiple locations or covering different routes and assignments.
