Job summary

Pero Transport is hiring Class A drivers for the Cheriton, VA location. This full-time exempt role reports to the Transportation Manager and requires a CDL-A with a current medical card, clean driving record, and DOT knowledge.

Expect interstate and local deliveries, strict adherence to schedules, and maintaining temperature control for refrigerated freight. Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, proper paperwork, and professional conduct at customer sites.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL-A) and comply with FMCSR Part 383.
• Current Medical Card.
• Clean Driving Record.
• Register with the D.O.T. Clearinghouse.
• Operate a 53' Tractor-Trailer in a safe and professional manner.
• Must read and write English and perform basic math.
• Abide by all DOT regulations.
• Manual 13 speed transmission experience.
• Minimum age 23 years.
• Knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
• Operate a 53' Tractor-Trailer safely and professionally with trailer hookup.

Responsibilities

• Operate company commercial vehicles safely and efficiently per DOT, FMCSA, and company standards.
• Perform interstate and local deliveries with on-time delivery and proper temperature control.
• Complete required paperwork and verify documentation.
• Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections; report issues.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and monitor equipment condition.
• Log Hours of Service per JJ Keller ELD and FMCSA rules.
• Communicate with dispatch regarding delays or issues.
• Follow dispatch instructions and routing protocols.
• Represent Pero Transport professionally at customer sites.
• Manage reefer operation and temperature integrity for refrigerated freight.
• Handle trailer coupling/uncoupling and landing gear operations.
• Use Comdata cards and lumper checks accurately.
• Participate in drug and alcohol screenings as required.
• Assist in orientation of new drivers.
• Adhere to safety policies and training sessions.
