Job summary

Clean Harbors in Rockford, IL is seeking a Class A CDL Driver to operate a variety of trucks and support site cleanup projects with a strong safety mindset.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday starting around 6–7 am, with overtime after 40 hours and on-call duties. Eligible for hazardous materials endorsements and paid training; two-week out-of-state academy training is provided.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Hazmat and Tanker endorsements preferred or can be obtained within 90 days.
• Ability to use various mobile devices.
• Must pass background check, drug test, and medical exam.
• Respiratory protection standards compliance per OSHA.
• Overtime after 40 hours and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize Health and Safety in all tasks.
• Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers as needed.
• Run a variety of Class A trucks and loading/unloading duties.
• Perform manual labor on site to meet customer needs.
• Properly placard vehicles to meet DOT requirements.
• Maintain daily logs, time sheets and reports.
• Follow local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Safely operate vehicles per DOT and company guidelines.
• Adhere to environmental, health and safety procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Be on call for emergency response on a rotating basis.
• Site remediation and handling of hazardous materials as required.

Job description

Clean Harbors in Rockford, IL is seeking a Class A CDL Driver to operate a variety of heavy and light duty trucks/work equipment at our customer sites; some of the vehicles operated include vacuum trucks, Cuscos, guzzlers, and roll offs. This role is responsible for performing driving and non-driving duties on and off customer sites associated with hazardous waste clean-up.

• Hazmat and Tanker endorsements preferred, no automatic restriction
• Typically, Monday through Friday schedule, average start time between 6-7 am, overtime after 40 hrs.
• On call as needed
• Must be available for emergency response/project work that could take you out of town up to 2 weeks at a time, hotel and per diem provided

Note this position requires new hires to attend our two-week Academy training out of state. Expenses are covered by the company, and it is paid training.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and always acting in a safe manner
• Operate commercial trucks and assist field laborers when needed (team atmosphere where everyone helps)
• Operate a variety of Class A trucks
• Loading and unloading of trucks
• Manual labor on site to ensure fulfillment of customer needs
• Proper placarding of vehicles to meet Company and DOT requirements/regulations
• Maintain daily logs, time sheets, and various reports
• Follow all local, state (provincial) and federal compliance regulations and rules
• Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state (provincial) and federal requirements
• Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures
• Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned
• By position, ability to be on call for emergency response on rotating basis every other week
• By position, site-remediation, equipment decontamination, and the handling of hazardous materials

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• Valid Class A CDL
• Ability to obtain Hazmat and Tanker endorsement within 90 days of employment
• Ability to use various mobile devices
• Perform physical functions per job requirements
• Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
• Per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.34, employees in positions requiring respirators are required to meet facial hair standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Commercial driver experience
• Hazmat and Tanker endorsement
• Previous Hazmat experience
• Ability to operate a manual transmission
• Previous manual labor experience
