Job summary

Dakota Mill and Grain, Inc. is hiring a Class A CDL Driver to support grain transportation and related operations in South Dakota.

The role emphasizes safety, accurate record-keeping, and dependable delivery performance within a fast-paced agricultural environment. As a key member of our trucking and warehouse team, you will operate Class A vehicles, perform routine inspections, and maintain strong communication with farmers and customers while supporting the grain elevator operations during

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 2 years of Class A CDL driving experience.
  • Doubles/Triples endorsement required; tanker endorsement preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; physically demanding duties.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a Class A CDL vehicle to transport grain and agricultural products to designated destinations.
  • Ensure safe loading, transportation, and unloading; maintain accurate delivery records.
  • Adhere to safety policies and regulatory requirements; report maintenance needs.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; assist in warehouse and grain elevator operations when not driving.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build strong relationships with farmers and team members.

As a Class A CDL Driver, you will play a vital role in our operations and contribute to our continued success.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a Class A CDL vehicle to transport grain or other agricultural products and materials from various locations to designated destinations.
  • Ensure safe and efficient loading, transportation, and unloading of products and materials.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, and fuel usage.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, and promptly report any maintenance or repair needs to the Trucking Manager.
  • Facilitates routine service on trucks, including checking oil, water, gasoline, and air.
  • Responsible for cleaning the inside of trailers and opening and closing traps on the trailers.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to safety and compliance.
  • Build strong relationships with farmers, customers, and team members through excellent communication and professionalism.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, always ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • When not driving, this position will also assist in the warehouse and grain elevator.
Requirements
  • Valid Class A CDL in good standing with no serious violations, tickets, or accidents in the last five years and no DWI/DUI in the last ten years.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Class A CDL Driver preferred
  • Doubles/Triples Endorsement is required, a tanker endorsement is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all local, state, and federal regulations governing transportation.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with farmers, customers, and team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working at heights in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Commitment to safety and ability to follow safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, during peak harvest seasons.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to physically lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) frequently throughout the work shift with or without assistance.
  • Frequent walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Standing/working on feet for extended periods and walking across uneven terrain, climbing up and down ladders and stairways
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions and elements, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, etc.
  • Frequent exposure to noise and dust
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment and any other safety-related equipment.
  • Able to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and overtime as required.
