Job description

H&E Rentals has an immediate opening for a Class A CDL Driver. A Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely loading, securing, delivering, and unloading heavy equipment to the customer’s job site in a safe manner in compliance with local, state, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Rental equipment will be picked up, loaded, and secured for return to the branch. The driver will operate a truck and/or tractor-semi trailer (flatbed) combination vehicle exceeding 26,001 pounds.

Responsibilities

1. Route Planning & Load Management: Strategically plan delivery routes considering load weight, dimensions, road conditions, and construction factors. Secure equipment loads effectively to prevent shifting during transit.
2. Documentation & Compliance: Verify and maintain accurate bill of lading (BOL) and shipping documentation for each delivery. Obtain necessary permits and clearances prior to transport.
3. Vehicle Inspection: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and securements. Report any maintenance needs promptly.
4. Weight Distribution: Properly distribute weight based on trailer size and axle configuration to ensure safety and compliance.
5. Safety & Reporting: Follow safety protocols, ensure load heights meet regulations, and appropriately flag and placard vehicles. Report issues immediately.
6. Electronic Logging & Paperwork: Use Electronic Logging Device (ELD) for tracking and complete all necessary paperwork daily.
7. Customer Interaction: Provide basic equipment usage training to customers as needed.
8. Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Experience: Minimum age of 21 with at least one year of tractor-trailer flatbed experience.
3. Certifications: Valid Class A CDL and DOT medical certificate.
4. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FMCSA Hours of Service regulations and ELD operation.
5. Driving Record: Clean MVR and CDLIS with no disqualifying traffic convictions.
6. Physical Requirements: Ability to travel daily and handle physical demands.
