Job description

H&E Rentals has an immediate opening for a Class A CDL Driver. A Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely loading, securing, delivering, and unloading heavy equipment to the customer’s job site in compliance with local, state, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. The driver will pick up rental equipment, load, and secure it for return to the branch. The role involves driving a truck and/or tractor-semi trailer (flatbed) combination vehicle with a weight exceeding 26,001 pounds.

Responsibilities:

1. Route Planning & Load Management: Strategically plan delivery routes considering load weight, dimensions, road conditions, and construction factors. Secure equipment loads to prevent shifting during transit.
2. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate bill of lading (BOL) and shipping documentation. Secure necessary permits and clearances prior to transport.
3. Vehicle Inspection: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and securements. Report any maintenance needs promptly.
4. Weight Distribution: Properly distribute weight based on trailer size and axle count for safe transport.
5. Safety & Reporting: Follow safety protocols, ensure load heights meet clearance requirements, and report issues immediately.
6. Electronic Logging & Paperwork: Use Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) for tracking and complete all necessary paperwork daily.
7. Customer Interaction: Provide basic equipment usage training to customers as needed.
8. Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. Minimum age of 21 with at least one year of flatbed tractor-trailer experience.
3. Valid Class A CDL and DOT medical certification.
4. Knowledge of FMCSA Hours of Service regulations and ELD operation.
5. Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and no disqualifying traffic convictions.
6. Ability to travel daily and handle physical demands of the job.
