Job Overview
The Bulk Delivery driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating diesel-powered tractor‑trailers to transport and deliver products or materials in packaged or palletized form to and from customer locations for local and regional distances while following Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and company policies. The position includes unloading pallets, repositioning empty and loaded trailers, and interacting with customers and the sales team to ensure excellent service.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform assigned pre‑shift activities to ensure a productive shift, including reviewing work schedules, checking equipment, and preparing supplies.
- Conduct daily pre‑trip, post‑trip, and in‑route safety inspections of the truck and trailers to ensure safe operation according to FMCSA regulations.
- Safely and legally operate the tractor‑trailer at all times following applicable laws and company policy, and complete required paperwork for freight with proper signatures and documentation.
- Plan trips using maps, GPS, and other information to ensure efficient, legal, and on‑time pickup and delivery, recording daily hours of service in an electronic log per FMCSA and company requirements.
- Load and secure cargo against movement and damage, maintaining seal control as required; use pallet jacks or other means to load and unload freight at customer locations.
- Perform post‑shift activities including coupling and uncoupling trucks and trailers, sliding tandems, adjusting loading gear, opening and closing cargo doors, climbing on and off the vehicle safely, refueling with diesel, securing equipment, and completing all required paperwork.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Must read, write, and communicate in English, including FMCSA regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid FMCSA physical certification with Interstate non‑exempt classification within 60 days of position entry.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Class A CDL for Interstate driving on manual and automatic transmissions within 60 days of position entry (permit or license timeline varies by location).
- Preferred: Two (2) years of verifiable tractor‑trailer driving experience.
- Preferred: Sales experience.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and use a pallet jack.
- Must be able to operate loading gear and open/close cargo doors safely, including climbing on/off the vehicle.
- Ability to read, understand, and effectively plan trips using trip information.
- Hand‑held device also serves as cell phone.
- Willing to work varying shifts, including overnight and early morning.
Minimum Qualifications
- One to three years of relevant work experience.
- Valid driver’s license with excellent driving history; CDL required; Hazmat certification where necessary.
