Job summary

Prysmian in Claremont, NC seeks a results-driven Supervisor to oversee a rotating 12-hour shift in a 24/7 cable manufacturing plant. You will lead safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives while meeting daily production goals.

Ideal candidates have at least 5 years in manufacturing, a High School diploma, and experience with Lean 6S and SAP; strong mentoring and communication skills are essential to coach operators and drive performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Lean Manufacturing and 6S training preferred.
• OJT completion for specific job classification as needed.

Responsibilities

• Safety: follow safety procedures, lead PPE ambassador, coordinate emergency response.
• Quality: ensure products meet requirements; document Quality Notes; coordinate with Engineering/maintenance.
• People: drive continuous improvement, lead Tier 1 meetings, coach operators, develop training plans.
• Delivery: plan staffing, reassign operators, ensure lines run smoothly and meet daily goals.
• Inventory/Cost: participate in inventories; support scrap reduction and labor efficiency; IT on-shift contact.

Position Summary

The Supervisor oversees one of four rotating 12-hour shifts, running in a 24/7 (7pm to 7am) cable manufacturing plant. The supervisor keeps safety and quality standards and ensures that production goals are met with work being performed in compliance with company policy and regulations.

Responsibilities include

Safety

• Follow all applicable safety procedures and ISO14001 EMS guidelines.
• Lead as a safety and PPE ambassador and by example for all operators.
• Function as the emergency point of contact, follow emergency procedures including evacuations, muster point roll call, plant management notification, fiber plant communication and coordinating emergency response activities with local authorities and internal safety staff.

Quality

• Ensure all product meets requirements as defined by the Plant’s Quality Management Systems.
• Aiding operators with recording correct and clear Quality Notes. (QN’s)
• Co-ordinate corrective activities with Engineering and Maintenance as needed.

People

• Drive the Prysmian continuous improvement culture which includes:
• Supporting all Tier Communication processes, lead Tier 1 meetings, encourage operators to take accountability for production goals and report production data.
• Help conduct 5-Why root causes analysis and problem solving and decide corrective actions.
• Utilizing Right the First-Time boards to capture initiative-taker line specific corrective actions and support preventative maintenance and ongoing 6S activities and housekeeping activities.
• Motivate, encourage, and coach operators.
• Complete detailed shift reports including Leader Standard Work (LSW).
• Work with Value Stream Managers to develop and update skills matrix and help develop and implement shift training plans.

Delivery

• Work with management to plan and coordinate shift staffing and production activities.
• Optimize reassignment of operators to different production lines based on dynamic requirements including job reprioritization, materials availability, and staffing changes.
• Make sure the production lines run smoothly and efficiently and meet daily goals.
• Help trouble shoot production line startup interruptions including raw material shortages to resume production output as quickly as possible.

Inventory, Cost and General

• Participate in monthly and ad hoc inventory stock taking counts.
• Promote annual gain share goals and aims and lead supporting initiatives such as scrap reduction and increased labor efficiency.
• Function as the primary contact point for IT issues on shift.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manufacturing management.

Education

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Lean Manufacturing and 6S training

Experience

Required

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment
• Must complete OJT for specific job classification, as needed, on time.

Preferred

• Prior management experience in a Lean Manufacturing organization
• Intermediate to advanced Excel training
• SAP knowledge
