Position: Clamp Truck Driver/Material Handler

Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Location: Carol Stream, IL. This position will be relocating to our new state-of-the-art facility in Elgin, IL in 2025!

Job Summary

The Clamp Truck Operator’s main responsibility is to operate a diesel, propane, or gasoline-powered clamp truck to transport materials on the shop floor according to work order tickets or verbal instructions from supervisors or management. They will load and unload trucks with materials or products and support the supply chain and production lines through collecting, loading, shipping, and receiving warehouse products. Other equipment used includes electric jacks, strapping tools, hammers, pry bars, and other hand tools.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The right candidate will prioritize safety and perform the following:

  • Assist production lines with infeed and outfeed of materials and finished goods.
  • Position loads on the floor in staging areas.
  • Perform daily inspections on the clamp truck to check horns, lights, safety belts, fuel, oil, lubricants, cooling system, and motor tune-up needs.
  • Keep updated records of inventory, weight, and activity logs.
  • Perform cycle counts as required.
  • Move materials from receiving and storage areas to other designated locations.
  • Maintain and rotate inventory of stock products.
  • Assemble customer orders from stock and prepare pallets or shelves.
  • Ensure products are delivered according to order, packing, and delivery requirements.
  • Maintain efficient production standards.
  • Utilize barcode scanners and Warehouse Management Systems as required.
  • Adhere to quality and customer service standards.
  • Use wireless RF scanners to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Perform quality checks on inbound and outbound goods.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA guidelines.
  • Abide by company rules and policies concerning conduct and safety.
  • Drive safely, including looking in the direction of travel, wearing PPE and seatbelts, driving at appropriate speeds, and using horns when necessary.

  • Knowledge of material handling equipment is an asset.
  • Strong safety awareness in the workplace.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and motor skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of warehouse layout and operations.
  • Exposure to moving equipment.
  • Ability to work in humid environments exceeding 80% humidity.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, stooping, and squatting up to 75% of the time.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling (up to 60 pounds).
  • Occasional typing, voice-assisted documentation as needed.
Compensation

The annualized base pay ranges from $18 to $22 per hour, based on position analysis, performance, proficiency, and competencies. This is part of Pregis’s total compensation package. Benefits details are available separately.
