Claims Unit Manager



Job Summary
This management leadership position is responsible for managing four to ten Claims Teams or specialized functions within the Claims business unit. The primary functions include effective loss and expense management, employee development and succession planning, training, staffing, performance measurement, and continuous improvement. The role also involves facilitating unit-level strategies to support claims initiatives and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, statutory, and company standards for technical and customer service excellence.



Job Duties

  • Ensure all claims within the unit meet or exceed quality and regulatory requirements. Regularly review claim files for quality, monitor audit results, performance reports, and customer survey data. Implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Recruit, develop, and coach staff to support quality claims handling. Oversee employee recruitment, identify training needs, and support succession planning. Provide timely employee coaching and performance feedback.
  • Support professional growth by providing development opportunities, delegating authority appropriately, and leveraging employee capabilities to meet organizational goals.
  • Communicate goals and expectations clearly to team members. Monitor and reinforce behaviors that promote technical excellence and superior customer service. Seek innovative solutions to organizational challenges.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers. Address customer service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare reports on performance, costs, staffing, and resource allocation. Participate in meetings to evaluate work processes and administrative projects.
  • Contribute to committees and projects aimed at organizational improvement.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)
  • 7-9 years of claims handling and/or operations experience (required)
  • 4-6 years of management or supervisory experience (preferred)
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective leadership
  • Ability to lead change effectively
  • Valid Driver's License, acceptable DMV record, and minimum liability insurance (required)
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation (required)

The starting pay range for this position is $117,600.00 - $156,400.00.

Eligible for an incentive program based on organizational, team, and personal performance.
