Job summary

Sompo is seeking a Claims Specialist to join our US Casualty Claims team. This role supports review of reported claims, coverage analysis, reserves, and coordination with underwriters and counsel. The position is based in Dallas, TX, with collaboration across Alpharetta, GA, New York and other offices in the US.

You will handle high-volume, low-to-moderate severity claims, demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, and contribute to outcomes with accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of insurance casualty claims experience with high volume handling.
• Strong written and verbal communications.
• Experience handling excess claims is a plus.
• Proficiency with common claims systems and MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Review newly reported claims for exposure and route per triage rules.
• Provide coverage and liability analysis and establish reserves.
• Communicate findings to management and underwriters; support underwriters and actuaries.
• Manage counsel where assigned and help control expenses in litigated claims.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Review newly reported claims for potential exposure and route these claims according to triage/routing rules, including follow-up investigation for needed information, while maintaining an inventory of low severity primary and excess liability claim files and moderate complexity coverage files.
• Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures, including liability and damages analysis, and establish appropriate reserves.
• Communicate appropriate responses to management and underwriters on new losses. Support underwriters and actuaries.
• Manage counsel where assigned; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims. Effectively represent the company’s interests in meetings and negotiations.
• Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain a current diary in compliance with company standards.
• Maintain a high level of claim and industry related expertise in order to assure technical competency and communicate to team members regarding significant issues and relevant changes.

What You’ll Bring

• College degree required.
• 2-3 years insurance casualty claims experience with a proven record of effectively and efficiently managing a high volume of low to moderate severity claims including coverage analysis and drafting coverage letters; early recognition of potential exposure; assessing and pursuing risk transfer opportunities; driving claim files to best outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to establish and expand working relationships with other departments.
• Experience handling excess claims.
• Technical skillsets in commonly used claims systems and general office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and work autonomously as well as within a team.

Salary Range

$70,000 – $120,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
