Job summary

Sompo, a leading insurer, is seeking a Claims Specialist for the US Casualty Claims team. This role is based in Alpharetta, GA with other US office locations, and offers broad exposure to coverage analysis, reserving, and collaboration with underwriters and risk control.

You will review new claims, route them per triage rules, manage reserves, coordinate with counsel, and support underwriters and actuaries while delivering timely, fair outcomes for insureds. Strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years insurance casualty claims experience with a proven record of managing high volume low to moderate severity claims including coverage analysis and drafting coverage letters.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to collaborate with other departments.
• Experience handling excess claims and liaising with counsel when needed.

Responsibilities

• Review newly reported claims for potential exposure and route according to triage rules; maintain an inventory of files.
• Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures and establish reserves.
• Communicate with management and underwriters on new losses; support underwriters and actuaries.
• Manage counsel where assigned; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims.
• Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain a current diary in compliance with standards.
• Maintain technical competency and share updates on significant issues with the team.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Review newly reported claims for potential exposure and route these claims according to triage/routing rules, including follow-up investigation for needed information, while maintaining an inventory of low severity primary and excess liability claim files and moderate complexity coverage files.
• Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures, including liability and damages analysis, and establish appropriate reserves.
• Communicate appropriate responses to management and underwriters on new losses. Support underwriters and actuaries.
• Manage counsel where assigned; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims. Effectively represent the company’s interests in meetings and negotiations.
• Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain a current diary in compliance with company standards.
• Maintain a high level of claim and industry related expertise in order to assure technical competency and communicate to team members regarding significant issues and relevant changes.

What You’ll Bring

• College degree required.
• 2-3 years insurance casualty claims experience with a proven record of effectively and efficiently managing a high volume of low to moderate severity claims including coverage analysis and drafting coverage letters; early recognition of potential exposure; assessing and pursuing risk transfer opportunities; driving claim files to best outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to establish and expand working relationships with other departments.
• Experience handling excess claims.
• Technical skillsets in commonly used claims systems and general office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and work autonomously as well as within a team.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $120,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
