We are working with a major, New York based utility company seeking a claims professional (either a claims attorney or a claims adjuster, with preference for a New York licensed claims attorney) to assist in overseeing outside counsel in a mix of premises liability and motor vehicle accident matters, in both liability and no liability cases. The company desires to fill the position as soon as possible. The work is expected to endure for three to twelve (3 - 12) months. The position is onsite during the first week and hybrid thereafter (Tuesday-Thursday in-office; Monday and Friday, remote). Compensation is $95/hr.
The hired professional, largely independently, will manage 100+ cases handled on the company's behalf by outside counsel. The successful candidate will review files; maintain a diary of case updates; communicate with outside counsel and internal investigators; assist in developing case strategy and making recommendations on settlements and/or investigations; enter notes into the case management system, updating the case file; review submitted bills; prepare and present settlement requests; make recommendations on reserves; review motions filed by outside counsel; review mediation statements; and work collaboratively with other members of the outside counsel management team.
Candidates must have significant experience independently managing a high volume of general litigation cases and developing and reviewing defensive case strategy. The hired professional will be a quick study and have strong communication skills; a good understanding of the reserve setting with experience valuing cases in New York; the ability to review and comment on motions; the capacity to draft settlement requests and perform case reviews; and an understanding of technology with the ability to use it (e.g., case management software, Outlook, Excel, etc.). New York licensure is required.
The company is proud of its stability and its appreciation of its employees.
