Viejas Casino & Resort, San Diego’s premier four-diamond gaming and resort destination, seeks an experienced Claims Specialist to support our Risk and EHS Team. The role involves managing work injury, general liability, and property claims, analyzing safety and loss data, and recommending measures to minimize hazards.

You will coordinate with insurers, maintain logs, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations while fostering a safe work environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
2+ years of workers' compensation claims experience.
Knowledge of safety equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Proficient in Windows, Excel, and Word.

Responsibilities

Manage Work Injury Program including insurer/TPA relationships and claims monitoring.
Design and manage the Light Duty Program and return-to-work coordination.
Maintain OSHA and work injury logs and determine recordability.
Manage general liability and property claims support with insurers and carriers.
Investigate accidents to assess liability, damage, or injury.
Analyze safety and loss data; identify patterns and recommend loss-control measures.
Coordinate data collection between security, surveillance and other sources.
Propose changes to improve risk processes and environment.

Viejas Casino & Resort, San Diego’s Premier Four Diamond Gaming and Resort destination, is looking for an experienced Claims Specialist to support our Risk and EHS Team!

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Claims Specialist is responsible managing claims for the work injury, general liability, and property programs acting as an analyst for all claims, conducting safety and environmental investigations for the claims. Duties include collecting, analyzing, and evaluating safety, loss and accident data and providing recommendations to minimize hazards.

CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

Manages the Work Injury Program, including, but not limited to managing the relationship with insurance carriers and/or third-party administrators, monitoring claims, maintaining files and providing necessary support in defense of claims.
Designs and manages the Light Duty Program. Coordinates team member return-to-work status and acts as liaison between team members on light duty and their departments.
Maintains OSHA and Viejas work injury logs, including determining if an injury/illness is recordable.
Manages general liability claims, including, but not limited to managing the relationship with insurance carriers and/or third-party administrators, monitoring claims, maintaining files and providing necessary support in defense of claims.
Manages property claims, including filing claims with outside insurance carriers, providing necessary documents, and monitoring claims.
Conducts and reviews accident investigation reports to assess liability, damage or injury.
Collects, analyzes, and evaluates safety, loss, and accident data. Looks for patterns and recommends loss control measures.
Coordinates the collection of data between security, surveillance, and other appropriate sources.
Recommends changes that reflect improvement to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries.
Researches laws, regulations, codes, and best management practices in support of risk projects.
Provides analyses and research in support of proactive projects aimed at attaining best practices and continuous improvement of risk processes and practices.
Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace and prepares recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
Complies with and follows company and departmental policies and standard operating procedures, and any applicable governmental laws and regulations.
Ensures that a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained.
Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

EXPERIENCE

Must be 21 years of age or older.
2 or more years of related experience with workers compensation claims.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Ability to work in a professional high-pressure environment while demonstrating and maintaining good personal relation/people skills and a positive attitude.
Ability to multitask and work well under stress.
Must be a self-starter and able to adjust to change.
Must be able to work flexible hours during the day or evening including weekends, holidays, and all blackout dates.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent guest service and organization skills.
Knowledge of safety equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and standards.
