Job summary

The North Carolina Education Lottery seeks a Regular Full-Time Associate to join our Wilmington, NC claims center. This on-site role emphasizes customer service, cash handling, and accurate processing of prize claims in a fast-paced environment.

You will verify eligibility, prepare payments, balance drawers, maintain records, respond to inquiries, and support secure operations while upholding audit standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 1 year of customer service, cash handling, or office experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and recordkeeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills focused on customer engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion; multitask and stay professional under pressure.
  • IRS TIN Matching System access is preferred; Notary Public and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Validate and process lottery prize claims by verifying player eligibility, age, and identity using secure tools and IRS TIN matching systems.
  • Prepare, approve, and distribute prize payments via checks or prepaid debit cards, ensuring compliance with Lottery and IRS standards.
  • Manage cash handling operations, including balancing drawers, daily deposits, and reconciliation of claims activity.
  • Maintain accurate and complete claim documentation and secure storage of sensitive winner information with audit policy adherence.
  • Respond to player inquiries with professionalism, empathy, and accuracy to ensure a positive claimant experience.
  • Monitor and balance instant ticket inventory, ticket vending machines, and SCIQ systems to ensure efficient claims center operations.

Requirements:

  • High school/GED and 1 year of experience in customer service, cash handling, or operating in an office environment
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling, reconciliation, and recordkeeping
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer engagement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Skilled in multitasking, prioritization, and maintaining professionalism under pressure
  • IRS TIN Matching System access (Preferred)
  • Notary Public certification (Preferred)
  • First Aid and CPR certifications (Preferred)

Hiring Rate: $20.25/hr(this non-exempt position will be filled at or near the posted salary)
