Job summary

Markel Group seeks a Claims Examiner II to analyze coverage, investigate losses, and draft positions across jurisdictions. You will handle property and bodily injury claims up to $250,000 and may represent Markel in mediations, while maintaining strong customer service for insureds.

The role offers a hybrid schedule with 3 days in office and 2 days remote; base salary ranges from $60,300 to $100,500 with a 12% bonus potential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in commercial construction.
  • Claims adjuster license required or eligible.
  • Completion of basic insurance courses or designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry or claims handling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions.
  • Investigates loss facts and extent of damages.
  • Drafts coverage position letters and evaluates exposure.
  • Handles claims in multiple jurisdictions up to $250,000 for property and bodily injury.
  • Represents Markel in mediations when required.
  • Provides excellent customer service to insureds.

The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under general direction from their manager.ResponsibilitiesAnalyzes coverage and communicates coverage positionsConducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damagesConfirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claimsDrafts coverage position lettersEvaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposureHandles claims in all jurisdictionsHandles litigated and non-litigated property damage claims with values up to $250,000Handles non-litigated bodily injury claims with values up to $250,000 in all jurisdictions;Handles smaller product liability and/or construction defect claims.Identify losses which should be reported to SIU.Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requestedProvides excellent and professional customer service to insureds while maintaining a high level of production.Represents Markel in mediations, as requiredSets reserves within authority or makes recommendations concerning reserve changes to managerQualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent work experienceMust have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster licenseSuccessful completion of basic insurance courses or achievement of industry designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU)Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in commercial construction or equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge of insurance industry or claims handling preferred.Markel offers hybrid working schedules of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
