Job summary

Thurston County Sheriff's Office seeks qualified candidates to join its patrol and public safety team. Officers patrol designated county areas by car, boat, or on foot to deter crime, conduct on-scene investigations, and render public services as needed.

Responsibilities include issuing citations, serving warrants, arrests, interviews, and thorough reporting. Applicants must meet Civil Service standards and pass tests and background checks.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient with ability to read, write, and speak English as required by RCW 41.14.100.
• Minimum age 21 at time of appointment.
• Must hold or obtain valid Washington State Driver's license.
• Must meet Thurston County Civil Service Pre-Employment Screening Standards.
• Acceptable scores on Civil Service skills examinations.
• Current Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate.
• Must have been employed with a law enforcement agency in Washington State within the prior 12 months.
• Must meet Sheriff's Office Employment Standards and be willing to pass a background investigation including polygraph and psychological evaluation.
• Must meet current physical standards adopted by the Sheriff's Office.
• If claiming Veterans' Scoring Criteria, provide DD Form 214 or NGB Form 22 and related declaration.

Responsibilities

• Patrols designated areas in a patrol car, boat, or on foot to deter and detect crime and assist the public.
• Conducts on-scene investigations at crime scenes and secures evidence and witnesses.
• Issues citations, serves warrants, and makes arrests with proper custody and reporting.
