Job summary

MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is seeking a lead member of the Police Communications team to guide technicians, ensure policy compliance, and maintain efficient dispatch operations. The role emphasizes mentoring, scheduling, and performance oversight within a fast-paced center.

The candidate must have a High School Diploma, POST BCO certification, at least two years of 9-1-1 dispatch experience, and GCIC Terminal Agency Coordinator certification within six months of hire,

Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead team member in Police Communications by providing guidance and direction to technicians on policy and procedures.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the dispatch center and ensures compliance with general orders.
  • Manages scheduling to meet minimum staffing and controls overtime.
  • Provides on-the-job training and mentorship for new employees and trainees.
  • Assists in performance evaluations, QA, and Open Record Requests (ORR).
  • Supports development of goals for the Police Communications Center and conducts coaching sessions.

Interview Selection Process

The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interview and/or competency assessments.

Summary

Serves as lead team member in Police Communications by providing guidance and direction to technicians on matters of policy, procedure, training and equipment maintenance. Ensures the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the center; maintains a working position at the dispatch console and is responsible for overseeing the immediate compliance and adherence to procedures and general orders.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assigns and supervises the work of communication center employees. Ensures day-to-day activities, in support of unit work goals, are completed in and efficient and cost-effective manner within the established policies and procedures.
  • Manages schedules to ensure minimum staffing requirements are always met and overtime is managed effectively.
  • Assists with on-the-job training of new employees. Monitor the working relations of trainer/trainee. Acts as a mentor to call-takers and dispatchers in training and/or recently released from training, including providing regular feedback and assistance as needed.
  • Provides input for performance evaluations, remedial training, commendations and personnel actions. Takes immediate action to stop and address any personnel issues occurring on shift.
  • Assists in the development and preparation of quality assurance reviews
  • Process Open Record Requests (ORR).
  • Assists in the development of programs, goals and objectives of the Police Communications Center.
  • Supports personnel by conducting one-on-one coaching sessions, recommending problem-solving strategies and encouraging teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must obtain and maintain Basic Communications Officer, Certified Training Operator and Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and Terminal Agency Coordinator certifications.
