Job summary

SEP Rail Services is seeking a Civils Setting Out Engineer to join the team in London or Kent. The role suits professionals with a minimum of 3 years’ civil engineering experience and familiarity with setting out techniques, GPS, level and EDM equipment.

The successful candidate will oversee site activities, ensure safety and quality, and collaborate with discipline engineers. A UK work entitlement is required and travel may be nationwide.

Qualifications

• 3+ years engineering experience.
• Degree in civil engineering or equivalent desirable; SSSTS beneficial.
• Potential toward ICE chartership/incorporation.

Responsibilities

• Clearly communicate safe system of work requirements.
• Take ownership of tasks and communicate outcomes.
• Work unsociable hours/nights as needed.
• Work on own initiative and seek opportunities.
• Hold a driving licence, PTS and CSCS.
• Report issues with control and data.
• Read and interpret drawings and schedules.
• Produce handover documentation for completed works.
• Supervise and oversee construction activities.
• Ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
• Manage site logistics and resolve technical issues.

Civils Setting Out Engineer Responsibilities

• Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately.
• Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes.
• Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights.
• Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility.
• Holds a current driving license, PTS card & CSCS Card.
• Must be a good team player, with developed communication skills.
• Environmental awareness
• Setting out techniques – ability to use level & EDM, plus GPS
• Able to report issues with control and information provided.
• Read and interprets drawings and schedules.
• Knows about Activity Control Plans and production of resultant information for handover file.
• Strong understanding of construction tolerances.
• Awareness and use of Specification and other Contract documents.
• Able to produce detailed documentation for handover of completed works.
• Supervising and overseeing construction activities.
• Ensuring quality and compliance with specifications.
• Managing site logistics and resolving technical issues.

Civils Setting Out Engineer Requirements

• 3-years previous Engineering experience.
• Degree qualification in civil engineering or equivalent is desirable or proven relevant experience. SSSTS
• May be working towards Chartership/Incorporation with ICE or other appropriate professional body.
• Familiar in Leica Survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, Optical & digital levels) for Setting Out & Survey
• Extensive Experience in reinforced concrete structures, Piling, Earthworks, drainage & Retaining structures.
• Awareness of commercial processes.
• Familiar with Quality Management System and familiar in writing RAMS.
• Proven people and project management skills.
• Team leader with organisational skills.
• Experience of working to high safety standards.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD & N4Ce
• An ambition to learn and develop.
• Flexibility to travel nationwide as required by our clients (Willingness to stay away from home where required due to project requirements)
