Job Summary

In this role you will perform complex structural engineering tasks to produce design and estimates for projects within the Manufacturing and Technology Business Unit. You will develop, evaluate, or modify design, drawings, specifications and requisitions for foundations, concrete and structural steel superstructure and other structural works under the supervision of a senior Engineer or Engineering Group Supervisor.

This position is designated as part-time telework. It may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined in consultation with supervisor and project leadership.

Major Responsibilities

• Schedules and coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group.
• Participates in the design, development and modification of civil/structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures, design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs and Design Control Check List.
• Designs structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering.
• Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements.
• Originates and checks structural engineering deliverables such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions.
• Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions.
• Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements.
• Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
• Completes civil/structural documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance.
• Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project civil/structural requirements and in addressing issues during project execution.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Career-level position within field.
• Considered skilled and proficient in discipline.
• Professional with an understanding of area of specialization, able to resolve a wide range of issues.
• Past experience with datacenters is preferred.
