Job description

PLC Construction, Inc. (PLC) is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to join our Engineering Services Division. The ideal candidate will bring a strong structural engineering and design background, with experience designing steel structures and foundations. This role provides civil/structural engineering expertise across new and existing upstream and midstream oil and gas projects, developing complete engineering packages from early concept through issued-for-construction deliverables.

  • Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems and analyze the operation of existing systems.
  • Review technical calculations and drawings for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline engineering teams to meet schedule and budget commitments.
  • Develop structural calculations, design drawings, and supporting documentation.

This position is based at our office in Westminster, CO, conveniently located off Hwy 36 and Sheridan Blvd. As a key member of the project team, you will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to guide projects from early concept through installation. You will help ensure structural design strategies emphasize constructability, safety, and cost efficiency to support on-time, on-budget delivery, while independently managing the structural design process across multiple projects of varying size and complexity.

Position Overview
What you’ll do
  • Oversee the development of engineering change notices (ECNs) for design updates.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with company, industry, and client quality requirements, applying Quality Assurance and Health & Safety best practices.
  • Perform site walkdowns, gather relevant field information, complete structural analysis and design, and coordinate with project stakeholders.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to resolve technical issues and deliver coordinated designs.
  • Proactively schedule and lead coordination meetings to clarify scope, requirements, and priorities.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Follow through on commitments to internal teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Apply industry and company standards and well-established engineering principles to develop safe, constructible designs.
  • Perform structural analysis and design for foundations supporting process and facility structures.
  • Direct and support designers in developing required engineering and design documents.
  • Coordinate with the project manager and cross-functional engineers and designers to execute assigned projects.
  • Prepare and review drawings detailing the designed systems and structures.
  • Deliver assigned projects with limited supervision, as directed by the Structural Practice Lead.
  • Travel to project sites, as needed, to support scope development, construction, testing, and start-up activities.
  • Use hand calculations and structural analysis software to evaluate loads, members, and connections.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable codes and standards and apply them to engineering design.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles and practices as spelled out in the codes and standards.
What you bring (Qualifications)
  • Foundation design experience (spread footings, mat foundations, & drilled piers).
  • Concrete design experience, including anchorage to concrete and familiarity with ACI 318.
  • Structural steel design experience (buildings, equipment supports, custom platforms, lateral systems, and seismic considerations).
  • Steel connection design and detailing experience.
  • Facility civil design and industrial site planning (site grading, stormwater planning, access roadways) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of current U.S. building codes and standards, including the International Building Code and ASCE 7.
  • Experience with structural design for natural gas processing facilities in the United States.
What will make you successful (Requirements / Preferences)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (required).
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration (required), with ability to obtain licensure in additional states. NCEES Record is a plus.
  • 6–10 years of experience performing civil/structural design and calculations for steel and reinforced concrete (manual and computer-based methods).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines, communicate clearly, and drive work to completion.
  • Ability to work in and review work in a 3D CAD environment (e.g., Navisworks) preferred.
  • Ability to perform site investigations and obtain field information at operating plants and construction sites.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with RISA 3D or STAAD Pro, Mathcad, and Microsoft Office (required).
  • AutoCAD and 3D modeling experience is a plus.
