Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Civil/Structural Drafter to support our Baton Rouge, LA industrial team.

The role involves drafting with AutoCAD and related CAD tools for heavy industrial projects in oil, gas, chemical, power, and metals sectors. The position requires working on-site in Baton Rouge, with opportunities to grow in single and multi-discipline projects and interface with engineers across design teams.

Qualifications

Orbital is currently seeking an entry-level Civil/Structural Drafter to support our Baton Rouge, LA industrial engineering team with single and multi-discipline projects. The position requires drafting with AutoCAD and other CAD tools in a consulting environment for heavy industrial engineering projects in the oil and gas, chemical, power, and metals industries.

Essential Functions

• Assist engineers in the design, drafting and development of engineering systems
• Preparation of various civil or structural drawings according to client and company standards including foundation design, grading plans, underground piping/drainage, structural steel piperack and support design and details
• Interpretation and translation of field notes into electronic drawing deliverables
• Perform field visits to heavy industrial plants and utility substations to verify accuracy of drawings.
• Design/Drafting in AutoCAD or similar products.
• Update design drawings from redline mark ups
• Preparation of equipment lists and bills of material from design drawings.
• Interface with engineering and design staff to complete single and multidiscipline projects.

Work Environment

• Ability to work in the field within heavy industrial facilities
• Ability to walk one to two miles in industrial facilities
• Ability to work in elevated work conditions
• Ability to perform field surveying, take measurements, reference from known or temporary benchmarks, and create detailed field notes and sketches of existing site layout, concrete and steel structures

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Design or high school diploma and at least one year of drafting course work or equivalent technical experience
• 0-2 year of CAD experience, preferably with electrical/utility CAD drafting or similar
• Knowledge of standard computer drafting tools ( i.e., AutoCAD)
• Ability to multitask between multiple projects
• Self-starter, works independently with little direction
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including CAD systems, Microsoft Office products and design software

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with 3D modeling in AutoCAD Plant 3D or AutoCAD Civil 3D
• CadWorx

This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.

Location Note

This is an on-site position. Compensation is based on market data and internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s location.

Salary Range

$20-26/hr (based on experience, qualifications, and location)
