The position emphasizes field duties such as construction inspection, site observations, and field documentation, with growing involvement in civil design, reports, cost estimates, and technical specifications under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 2–3 years of related civil engineering experience preferred; internship experience considered.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred, with interest in pursuing PE licensure.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and its application to civil engineering design strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Field responsibilities including construction inspection, site observations, field documentation, and coordination with contractors and municipal representatives.
• Support civil engineering design and project delivery for capital improvement and private development projects.
• Assist with reports, design calculations, plan production, and preparation of contract documents and technical specifications.

T&M Associates is seeking a Staff Designer 1 to join our Community Development team in Bloomfield, NJ. This is a great opportunity for an early-career civil engineer looking to build a strong foundation in both field and design work while gaining exposure to a variety of municipal and land development projects.

This role will initially have a strong field component, with responsibilities including construction inspection, site observations, field documentation, and coordination with contractors and municipal representatives. As part of the Community Development team, you will also gain hands‑on experience supporting civil engineering design and project delivery.

Additional responsibilities will include preparing reports, assisting with civil design for capital improvement and private development projects, and supporting senior engineers with planning and zoning board reviews, municipal design projects, contract documents, cost estimates, and technical specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline is required.
• 2–3 years of related civil engineering experience is preferred; relevant internship experience may be considered.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred, with an interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and its application to civil engineering design is strongly preferred.
• Ability to prepare and modify engineering plans, profiles, cross sections, details, alignments, surfaces, utilities, and quantity calculations.
• Familiarity with plan production, drafting standards, and construction document preparation.
• Strong attention to detail with an understanding of engineering design principles and the ability to prepare accurate design calculations.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively under the direction of project managers and senior technical staff.

T&M estimates that the salary range for this position will fall between $74,000–$80,000. The actual salary offered may vary within this range depending on factors including the candidate’s experience, education, skills and knowledge, internal pay equity, and geographic location.
