Job summary

HDR is seeking a Civil (Solid Waste) Intern to gain real‑world experience on waste facilities and environmental projects under the guidance of a senior engineer.

You will assist with site layouts, data collection, groundwater sampling coordination, and regulatory reporting, while developing problem‑solving and communication skills.

Preferred candidates are engineering students with a GPA around 3.0+, familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation, and a willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

In the role of a Civil (Solid Waste) Intern, we'll count on you to:

  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and proceduresto solid waste facilities and environmental projects such as landfills, recycling facilities, remediation sites, and waste transfer stations
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a senior-level Engineer toassist in groundwater sampling program including coordination with laboratories, data analysis and reporting on behalf of private and public clients for regulatory agency compliance
  • Perform other duties as neededsuch as performing overall site layouts, grading plans, utility layout, cost estimating and drainage reviews. Perform administrative duties to support project managers and our clients.
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
  • May require occasional travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Prior experience with field work and environmental regulations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation is a plus
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
