Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a qualified administrator to coordinate Civil Service Commission meetings, manage employee grievances, and ensure policy compliance with state and federal laws. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration or related field, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Civil Service Commission meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and administrative staff.
  • Investigate and help resolve employee grievances; coordinate hearings with Civil Service Commissioners and legal offices.
  • Review policies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws; propose changes as needed.
  • Coordinate testing processes with vendors and Sheriff's Office.
  • Perform administrative duties for the Civil Service Commission.

  • Coordinates all Civil Service Commission meeting requests and presentations with Sheriff and administrative staff, law enforcement and corrections associations. Researches agenda items.
  • Oversees the Sheriff’s Office employee grievance process. Investigates employee grievances and helps resolve conflicts. Coordinates grievance hearings with Civil Service Commissioners, County Attorney’s Office, all involved parties with their attorneys.
  • Reviews and ensures that policies and procedures within the Commission are consistent with state and federal policies, laws and regulations, and recommends changes as necessary.
  • Coordinates with vendors and the Sheriff's Office to plan, develop, and implement the written and verbal promotional testing process.
  • Responsible for administrative duties for the Civil Service Commission. Maintains and organizes information related to activities and meetings.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or directly related field.
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Strong computer and typing skills with a working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
  • Management and supervisory experience with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Capability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines and prioritize own/others’ work.
STARTING SALARY RANGE

$25.71 - $32.14 hourly based on qualifications
