Job summary

Pennoni is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Technician / CAD Designer in Virginia Beach, VA to support civil roadway design projects. You will develop accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads, coordinating with engineers, surveyors, and project teams to deliver plan and profile sheets and construction documents.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years' civil/transportation CAD drafting experience, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in Civil 3D and OpenRoads.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Design, or related field.
• 5+ years of civil engineering or transportation CAD drafting/design experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer/OpenRoads.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering and transportation plans, profiles, sections, details, and design drawings.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, survey information, specifications, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Develop, prepare, and revise civil engineering and transportation design drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
• Create and maintain accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models based on engineering plans, survey data, field information, and design specifications.
• Prepare plan, profile, cross-section, grading, drainage, roadway, utility, and other civil/transportation design drawings.
• Develop and modify existing ground and proposed surface models, alignments, profiles, corridors, and other design elements.
• Prepare roadway plans, typical sections, details, construction layouts, and other project deliverables.
• Process and incorporate survey and field data into CAD design files.
• Assist engineers with design development, quantity calculations, plan production, and preparation of construction documents.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency, dimensions, and compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate CAD drawings and design information with engineers, surveyors, architects, contractors, utility companies, and other project stakeholders.
• Make revisions to drawings and models based on engineering comments, field changes, and project requirements.
• Maintain organized CAD files, models, drawing sets, references, and revision records.
• Follow company standards, project-specific requirements, naming conventions, layering standards, and document-control procedures.
• Assist with resolving drafting and design conflicts and identify potential constructability issues.
• Participate in design reviews and coordinate updates throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform other CAD drafting and design duties as assigned.

Job Description

Pennoni is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled CAD Technician / CAD Designer with experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley OpenRoads to support the development of civil engineering and transportation design projects. The successful candidate will prepare accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, plans, profiles, and construction documents while working closely with engineers, designers, project managers, surveyors, and other project team members.

Required Attributes

• Associate degree, technical diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD Design, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in civil engineering or transportation CAD drafting/design.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer/OpenRoads.
• Strong understanding of civil engineering and transportation plans, profiles, sections, details, and design drawings.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans, survey information, specifications, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of CAD drafting standards and best practices.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience with roadway and transportation design projects.
• Experience developing Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, grading, and quantities.
• Experience with OpenRoads Designer/OpenRoads workflows, including terrain models, horizontal and vertical geometry, templates, corridors, profiles, and cross sections.
• Experience working with DOT or transportation agency standards and requirements.
• Experience with roadway, drainage, utilities, grading, and site development projects.
• Familiarity with survey data, point clouds, field data, and coordinate systems.
• Knowledge of BIM and civil 3D modeling workflows.
• Experience preparing plans for public-sector transportation or infrastructure projects.

Salary Range - $70K - $100K
