Job summary

The County of Monterey's Civil Rights Office is seeking an experienced professional to investigate discrimination complaints, interview witnesses, and prepare findings. You will advise departments on compliance with federal, state, and local civil rights laws, maintain records, and support strategic initiatives.

Attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work across teams are essential as cases may be sensitive and complex.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Equal Opportunity, Human Resources, Public or Business Administration, Labor Relations, Political Science, Law or a related field.
• Two years of progressively responsible professional work experience performing research, analysis, and completion of the technical components of Civil Rights/EEO investigations.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license or ability to provide suitable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary intake interviews; ascertain information to determine if a prima facie discrimination violation exists; review materials; counsel complainants on rights and options.
• Receive and investigate formal discrimination complaints; interview witnesses; obtain information from departments; analyze statements; write reports and findings.
• Prepare draft and final written investigative reports for submission to Civil Rights Officer, County Counsel, and outside agencies.
• Provide advice, direction, and technical assistance to departments to ensure compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations, court decisions, and County EEO policies.
• May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker as required.
