Job description

Sportworks Design is a dedicated group of land surveyors, civil and sports engineers, and landscape architects focused on sports facility planning and design. Over the past decade, we’ve used innovative engineering modeling technology and sports industry standards to design award-winning athletic facilities, campus site plans, synthetic turf fields, and field performance testing.

The Civil Project Engineer will provide technical leadership to project teams working on planning, evaluation, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the study-phase and/or design-phase of projects related to civil, environmental, construction, and industrial fields. The Civil Project Engineer will interact with employees outside their department, occasionally with clients, and rarely with the public (agencies, government entities, etc.), and may participate in selling to clients. The engineer is expected to manage project staff and deliverables, represent the company professionally, and have advanced knowledge of at least two engineering software packages. A Professional Engineering license is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consult with and guide project stakeholders and management regarding engineering requirements for construction and modifications.
  • Use design software and drawing tools to communicate designs effectively.
  • Set design specifications based on engineering calculations (water flow, traffic, earthwork, etc.).
  • Plan projects using relevant materials like drawings, surveys, maps, and geologic/topographical data.
  • Draft and present reports related to projects, such as detention and due diligence reports.
  • Perform cost calculations for materials, equipment, and labor.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and engineers to ensure project progress.
  • Work with surveyors to establish reference points and grades affecting construction.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure standards are met.
  • Review projects for QA/QC and stamp as appropriate.
  • Complete projects independently with minimal oversight.
  • Teach and explain engineering methodologies to others.
  • Design site projects at an advanced level, including detention design.
  • Mentor and evaluate staff, participate in meetings and networking events, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

  • Civil Engineering Degree or related field
  • Professional Engineer license for Ohio
  • At least 5 years of civil engineering experience
  • Public speaking skills are desirable
  • Experience leading full-cycle design projects
  • Ability to assign projects to junior engineers and implement regulations proactively
