GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for a Project Civil Engineer 1 within our Power Business Unit's Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector. GAI is an established and growing multi-discipline engineering firm with tremendous growth opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment. This position is eligible for GAI's flexible Hybrid workplace place/Telework Policy. This position will be based out of GAI's Bridgeport, WV; Charleston, WV; or Glen Allen, VA offices. GAI's Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients.


Job Duties:



  • Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineer project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; report preparation; and permitting.

  • Performs technical and feasibility studies.

  • Collaborates with other professionals and discusses requirements with team members.

  • Uses computer programs to develop detailed designs.

  • Ensures that work products meet client, environmental, and safety requirements.

  • Performs work with minimal guidance and supervision.

  • Handles complex issues and refers only the most complex issues to more experienced staff.

  • Possesses strong working knowledge of civil engineering design tasks and a positive attitude.

  • Possesses strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and analysis modules.

  • Performs moderate to complex civil design tasks while delegating more routine tasks to staff with less experience.

  • Mentor, guide and check the work of less experienced staff.

  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.

  • Adhere to the safety and quality procedures of GAI and our clients.

  • Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings

Minimum Years of Experience



  • 10+ Years of Civil Engineering Experience


Education



  • B.S. or M.S. Civil Engineering or related field


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.


Technical Responsibilities



  • Occasionally serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.

  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.

  • Occasionally develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.


Project and Task Management



  • Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.

  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects.

  • Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.

  • Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.

  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

  • Mentors senior staff.

  • Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.


Communication Skills



  • Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.

  • Represents their area of specialty within the organization and liaises with related individuals and organizations.

  • Routinely interacts with organizational leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.

  • Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership
