Job summary

Lumos & Associates invites aspiring Civil/Environmental engineers to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program as Civil Project Designers. You will support project teams in civil design, plan production, and modeling, gaining hands-on experience from mid-May to mid-August 2027.

The role emphasizes collaboration, learning, and exposure to design and construction processes across multiple disciplines within our Engineering Division.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with engineering tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support drafting and plan production using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Assist with site analysis, civil design, utility computations, and cost estimates.
  • Assist with project planning and analysis using ArcGIS Pro and related tools.
  • Contribute to water, wastewater, and stormwater modeling tasks.
  • Prepare reports, calculations, estimates, and other design supports.
  • Learn applicable engineering standards, codes, and permitting processes.
  • Participate in project meetings, field visits, and coordination activities.
  • Coordinate with utilities, municipalities, and stakeholders for design data.

Job description

Lumos & Associates is seeking highly motivatedCivil Project Designers to join our Engineering Division for the 2027 Summer Internship Program.

Our Civil Project Designer Interns will support engineering project teams while gaining hands-on experience with civil design, plan production, reports, calculations, modeling, and field activities. This seasonal position is designed for a college student pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and will work full-time/40 hours per week from mid-May through mid-August 2027. The internship provides opportunities to contribute to active projects while learning how multidisciplinary teams collaborate throughout the design and construction process.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal communication with team members and colleagues.
  • Ability to learn technical knowledge and new software quickly.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and eager to learn.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support drafting and plan production using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Assist with site analysis, civil design, utility computations, engineer’s opinions of probable costs, and supporting calculations.
  • Assist with project planning and analysis using ArcGIS Pro and related engineering tools.
  • Contribute to water, wastewater, and stormwater modeling tasks.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, calculations, estimates, and other design support documents.
  • Learn applicable engineering standards, codes, and permitting processes.
  • Participate in project status meetings, coordination meetings, field visits, and construction site visits.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other project stakeholders to gather information necessary for design.
  • Gain exposure to multiple civil engineering disciplines and collaborate with professionals across Engineering, Structural, Survey, and Construction.

Requirements

  • Student enrolled in a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree program in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Ability to work full-time during the internship period from mid-May through mid-August 2027.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, or other engineering software is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points.

California hourly pay range

$25 - $30 USD
