Job summary

City of Duluth seeks an Assistant City Attorney to join our Civil Division. Under the City Attorney, you will handle professional legal work focused on civil litigation, including complex and class actions in state and federal court.

Ideal candidates will be licensed in Minnesota with at least five years' relevant experience, strong drafting, research, communication and interpersonal abilities, and willingness to handle a broad range of legal duties for City departments and authorities.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Minnesota (State Bar of Minnesota).
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional legal work in civil litigation, including briefs, pleadings, ordinances, and contracts.
• Represent the City in court hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.
• Provide opinions and advice to City departments and boards; assist in contract negotiations.
