Our Staff Counsel organization is currently seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our dynamic and growing team in the San Antonio / Austin, Texas area. This is a full-time/exempt role.

Position Overview

Independently investigates and manages cases of moderate exposure and complexity in civil litigation from inception until conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial. Works with adjusters and clients to resolve claims efficiently. Serves as a mentor to developing attorneys.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases cost-effectively.
  • Conduct pre-trials, mediations, arbitrations, or other legal activities required.
  • May independently conduct trials.
  • Advise claim professionals on legal file evaluations.
  • Provide legal advice to clients and claim professionals as needed.
  • Negotiate settlements as directed.
  • Attend round tables and legal proceedings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Admitted to the bar and licensed to practice law in Texas.
  • Insurance defense jury trial experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable MVR, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals, and support staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, email, and calendar management.
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation, communication, decision-making, organizational, investigative, legal research, courtroom, and trial skills.
  • Interest and knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies, trends, and practices.
  • Resilience and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
  • Work on-site as needed and travel as necessary.
  • Work hours may exceed 40 hours per week in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
